How much does a web accessibility audit cost?

Since 28 June 2025, the European Accessibility Act applies to e-commerce sites and consumer-facing digital services across the EU. The question that arrives in the same sentence as “are we covered?” is almost always the same: what does it cost to find out where we stand? Here is the market as it actually is, from free to complete, and what each option can and cannot tell you.

Free: tools that speak to developers

Lighthouse (built into Chrome), WAVE, or DesignGouv’s ARA: these tools are free, instant and honest about what they find. Their limit is not technical but editorial: they output numbered WCAG violations, with no legal frame, no business priority, and nothing a director can take into a boardroom as it stands.

Ideal for a developer who is about to fix things. A poor answer for a decision-maker who first needs to know whether they are exposed, and how badly.

The automated report: a few dozen euros

In between sits the slot EAAudit fills: an automated scan of the key pages of your buying funnel, with a score on WCAG 2.1 AA criteria, the most important issues ranked by priority, and the French legal frame around them. Our detailed report costs €29 excl. VAT today — €49 excl. VAT afterwards, once the launch pricing ends on 2026-10-31 — and the price the checkout charges is the one shown at payment.

We say it everywhere we show the report, including inside it: an automated scan finds only part of the accessibility problems. It replaces a developer hand-testing, not an auditor qualifying compliance. Its value lies elsewhere: for less than a bank fee, you get a number about your own site and a prioritised list — enough to decide whether the multi-thousand-euro audit is needed at all, and to prepare it.

The agency audit: €2,000–5,000 excl. VAT

France’s ministry for digital affairs (DesignGouv) states that a RGAA compliance audit costs between €2,000 and €5,000 excl. VAT depending on the site’s complexity. This is the only price level that produces a grounded accessibility declaration: a human auditor tests the criteria code cannot reveal — real keyboard navigation, label comprehension, actual screen-reader use — and delivers a dated document that works as evidence.

That budget is justified when compliance must be demonstrated: public-facing obligations, demanding clients, or a multi-year accessibility programme. It is poorly justified while the question is still “are we exposed, and how badly?”.

Monitoring platforms: annual subscriptions

Alongside one-off audits, the English-speaking monitoring platforms (Silktide, Siteimprove, Deque…) sell monthly or annual subscriptions, priced per site and often per seat. They target organisations already running an accessibility programme, not ones looking for their first baseline.

Which budget for which site

The honest sequence — the one we advise even when it earns us nothing: start free to feel the ground. If problems pile up and you cannot tell how serious they are, a €49 excl.-VAT automated report gives a numbered answer the same day. Only when that report shows a broadly sound site that needs proving — or when compliance must be certified — does the multi-thousand-euro agency budget come into play.

What we will never do: sell you a browser extension that “makes your site compliant”. Such shortcuts have already been sanctioned elsewhere, and they replace none of the options above.

In short

Free to feel the ground, about fifty euros for a numbered, prioritised answer on your real pages, several thousand euros for full proof of compliance. The wrong choice is not one of the three: it is picking one without knowing why.
